I have nothing but endless love and respect for the British monarchy. Last week, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was deemed the longest reigning English monarch in history, and there are few times in my life I have ever been more happy. Many people say that the monarch is nothing more than a figurehead, but Queen Elizabeth is a true leader of the people. She spans multiple generations and is universally known by all, but it would be a mockery to her status to simply look at her as a celebrity. She is a true hero that lead the British people and the rest of the Commonwealth through the strife of the Second Great War and the hideous aftermath of such an event. She mended the racial tensions in South Africa through peace and love, when others called for violence. She looks global crisis in the eye with adversity, confidence and determination. This is why it makes me so proud to be able to look at this image of a young, hesitant, shy and aspiring monarch and look back in hindsight and really feel just how far she has come. Not many today can call their leader a true hero. Long live the Queen, who was never really supposed to become queen. This has been Matheson, your lord and master; stay classy, my heathens.
